Manisha Banik
Ms. Manisha Banik is the Founder and Director of MAB Incorporation, a multidisciplinary consultancy and implementation firm specialising in water, wastewater, sanitation, climate resilience, and sustainable infrastructure solutions. With over 15 years of professional experience in the water and environmental sector, she is widely recognised for bridging advanced technical expertise with practical, ground-level implementation.
An alumnus of the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, Netherlands, Ms. Banik holds a Master’s degree in Water and Sustainable Development, with specialisation in Water Hazards, Climate Risk, and Digital Innovation. She also holds a Master’s in Water Resources & Hydraulic Engineering from Jadavpur University and a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, forming a strong academic foundation that underpins her work across complex water systems, sanitation planning, and climate-adaptive infrastructure.
Ms. Banik founded MAB Incorporation in 2016, emerging as a spin-off from the prestigious FP7-funded ECO-India project supported by the European Commission and the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. Under her leadership, MAB Incorporation has evolved into a trusted partner for government departments, municipalities, international organisations, industries, institutions, and communities across India, Bhutan, Nepal, and Bangladesh, delivering end-to-end solutions from planning and design to implementation and capacity building.
In parallel with her entrepreneurial role, Ms. Banik serves as a National Short-Term Expert with adelphi & GIZ, a Lead Researcher for Jadavpur University, and an Expert Evaluator and Panel Member for the European Innovation Council (EIC) and European Research Council (ERC). She has contributed extensively to flagship initiatives such as District Ganga Plans (DGPs) and Urban River Management Plans (URMPs), supporting data-driven planning, stakeholder consultations, monitoring frameworks, and capacity-building programmes for urban and river basin governance.
Her technical portfolio spans water supply systems, wastewater and faecal sludge management, industrial effluent treatment, river rejuvenation, groundwater management, solid waste management, and nature-based solutions. She has successfully led projects in remote forest areas, urban local bodies, industrial clusters, hospitality sectors, and community-based settings, often focusing on low-cost, energy-efficient, and climate-resilient technologies.
Beyond technical leadership, Ms. Banik is deeply committed to social inclusion, women’s empowerment, and sustainable development. She is an Executive Body Member of the North Bengal National Chamber of Commerce & Industries (NBNCCI), a Life Member of the Indian Plumbing Association, and the President of The Catalyst (NGO). Her work consistently aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in ensuring equitable access to safe water, sanitation, and resilient infrastructure.
